This project was started in 2014. It was on-off and with many learning steps.
It was a challenging project. But finally the amplifier has finished and performs VERY good.
I am enjoying using the amplifier even for daily casual QSOs in 40m.
The amplifier do not generate too much heat and no noisy fan sound.
Here are some picture of the amplifier:
Finished amplifier. The box is from LFP 48V Battery Enclosure.
With cover removed
Right side of amplifier. Showing the amplifier board.
Left side of the amplifier. At the rear is 3 Band LPF. While on the front side is 150V SMPS.
The output power can go as high as 600W (or even more, but not recommended). Drive power is only 12W on 40m or even lower at 80m and 160m. At 160m, drive of 4W can produce 500W output. So, the transmitter does not have to work hard and less heat on the transmitter too.
VDD Relay board on the right.
I made measurement of output spectrum using Rigol DSA815 and homebrew coupler (you can find information about the coupler in one of my blog here). The output spectrum was good for a low cost amplifier.
Here is the setup during measurements.
On 40m, the 3rd harmonics is down 55dB while 2nd harmonics down 45dB.
On 80m, the 3rd harmonics is down 40dB with 2nd harmonics down 45dB.
On 160m, got 48dB down for 3rd harmonics while 2nd harmonics down to 43dB
